Preserving Our Stories: the Radcliffe Oral History Project

Preserving Our Stories: the Radcliffe Oral History Project

Please join Alice Abarbanel AB ’66, Suzy Underwood AB ’72, and Julie Cheever AB ’66 for a discussion of the Radcliffe College Alumnae Oral History Project. This dynamic program will include an overview and anecdotes from oral history interviews with alumnae from classes of the 1960s and 1970s.

The Radcliffe College Alumnae Oral History Project captures the stories and experiences of undergraduate women from the classes of the 1940s through 1974, set against the background of Radcliffe College’s history. During these years, Radcliffe gradually transformed from being a women’s college to being in the midst of a merger with Harvard College that brought about more complete coeducation and, at the same time, a loss of Radcliffe College’s separate identity.

This project was initiated in 2019 by the Radcliffe Club of San Francisco and in April 2020 the Schlesinger Library awarded the project one of four honorary Schlesinger Library Oral History Grants. Interviews are conducted by alumnae volunteers and the recordings and transcripts are sent to the Radcliffe College Archives at the Schlesinger. Learn more about the project.
